Letter Writing
Handwritten letters are some of my most treasured things. A deep surge of joy fills my heart when I open my mailbox to find a letter bearing my name and a beautiful stamp.
When I have the privilege to write a letter, I begin with choosing my paper. The paper I use most commonly is plain lined writing paper, or some simple stationery. With pencil and paper, I embark on my journey of creativity and relaxation. After a greeting, I write about what is taking up my time, whether it is school or work or play, and then I eagerly describe any new or exciting news such as, upcoming trips or special events or new experiences. I answer any questions that were in the letter I received. Then, picking my way through a jungle of consonants and vowels, I tell my friend about some of my favorite things. I end the body of my letter with a few questions about their life and hobbies.
Once the written portion of my letter is satisfactory, I adorn and address my envelope with stickers and small drawn accents.
Some days I will also create some other little tidbits to mail with the letter. My favorites are polaroid pictures, sketches, homemade bookmarks, and dried leaves and flowers.
The final touch is the stamp, then an excursion to the post office. In the winter, mail only comes and goes three or four days a week, letters are always a welcome treat.
